SIGN A PETITION TO END AGE DISCRIMINATION- SAVE-CREATE JOBS & THE AMERICAN DREAM!

“The “2011 Fair Playing Field Act to protect American Workers Against Age discrimination” http://signon.org/sign/2011-fair-playing-field?

This petition is a crucial step in ending age discrimination in the work place and in America and convincing the United States Congress that such legislation is in the best interest of all of the American people and needed immediately !

This petition addresses the core issue, that of age discrimination which drives many serious cyclical age and unemployment bias and unjust hiring practices.

It is our purpose to end age discrimination in the work place, from companies, employment and, staffing agencies regarding practices such as unemployed bias in job ads, the interview process, unemployed status, bad credit bias and that toward extending unemployment benefits for those without work for more than six months.

Federal legislation is needed that would provide age discrimination protection to workers age forty and older like that provided for race, gender, national origin and religion in civil rights law.

It has come to a point where numerical standard mandated by Federal law is justified and legislation establishing such is put into law.

Such a law would mandate companies with 40 or more employees implement numerical, documented verification standards requiring that a set number (1 in 5) employees in their work force is comprised of individuals between the age of forty and sixty five years of age.

Special tax credits will be allowed to all companies who hire an individual who has been unemployed six months or more without prejudice to credit ratings or unemployment status.

The “2011 Fair Playing Field Act to protect All American Workers Against Age discrimination” Federal legislation establishing numerical standards mandated by Federal law is good for America , its workers, the economy, substantially decreases unemployment benefit costs and provides a fairer playing field for American workers throughout the duration of their work life-careers.

It restores jobs, dignity, human and civil equality and justice, liberty and affords Americans the right and opportunity to work, provide for their families and to pursue the American dream.

Could this be the reason that Bank of America and Fannie refuse to give my home back as they unlawfully foreclosed on my husband and He is a dialysis patient.

I think this is an age discrimination phrase.
“Hit the ground running.” Many older workers are not able to run as fast or longer then younger workers. It is also an OSHA violation in the workplace.

The 2011 Fair Playing Field Act is sorely needed in the United States. Age discrimination has had and is continuing to have an extremely negative impact on the lives and families of America’s workers; it must be addressed ASAP.

I like many have experienced this first had….but until proving it is nearly impossible. The one thing that cant be argued away are the numbers!! Over 70% believe they have been discriminated due to age, shocking!

WE NEED THIS — I have experienced age bias as well, cannot get hired b/c of it!!

  7. Connie Kaplan says:

We need the entire country to hear what’s happening to older Americans and the blatant age discrimination and make it an issue for presidential candidates and other politicians running for office come November. Will be interviewing Joan Freeman tomorrow on my cable show Jobless Times. Knowledge is power and together our shouts will be heard!

I am over fifty and unemployed. I feel hopeless about getting another job.
It increases my depression and makes me angry. Why should age have any bearing on the ability to do a job?

I get it all the time at age 59. I even had one interviewer preface his conversation with, I know this is illegal to say but….and then he went on to say things about my ability to do a job at my age…..

There are FAR too many laws that protect employers, and FAR TOO FEW that protect employees and applicants. IT’S RIDICULOUS. And you can bet that those CEO’s who are older and still have their jobs, sitting in their high-backed chairs in their big corner offices don’t think twice about the people who may even be their same age, who get screwed out of jobs every day. Corporate F’s!!!!!

I have been looking for a job since February 2011. I have 20+ years of experience as an Executive Assistant. I have been asked all sorts of questions just short of how old are you. The market is fierce and the competition is huge. I’m proud of my accomplishments, experience, and believe I’ve definitely been discriminated against on several occasions because of my age and unemployment status. I find it more than ironic that a job that I’m qualified for, interview 6 times for, send handwritten thank you notes and don’t even get an email back from a company with any sort of feedback, good or bad, or that they hired someone with more qualifications is sent as an excuse. I’m not asking to run the company, I’m asking to do a job that I do well and will provide added value to the firm for several years to come. This has to stop.

I was just fired unjustly. Only 2 months ago. I was a permanent employee for 3 years at Puget Sound Energy in Bothell, WA. New management came in and I was fired for no reason whatsoever.. I was also harrassed for 1 year before being fired. I sign this petition for this reason and for all of the other unjust employers in the nation .

All discrimination is wrong but to use age and experience against women is just stupid.

Bullied out of the work place and at another job fired because, as I was told, I was “not a good fit.”

Age discrimination is widely accepted and practiced by most American businesses.

Current age discrimination law has no teeth and is completely ineffectual because all employers know enough not to commit the mistakes of making overt comments about a person’s age.
So they are free to fire, layoff, and not hire persons over 40 with impunity.

  21. Mark U. says:

If Congress want to raise our retirement age to 66+ and Medicare to 67 then Congress must bear the responsibility to guaranty employment for all. We must have an employment law in place enforcing corporations to employ people over 50, such as a certain percentage of the employees must be between 50 and retirement age. We need to petition such law.
